Reflection on Google Docs.

ICT Integrated Lesson Plan

What is google docs?
Google Docs is a word processor included as part of a free, web-based software office suite offered by Google within its Google Drive service. This service also includes Google Sheets and Google Slides, a spreadsheet and presentation program respectively. Google Docs is available as a web applicationmobile app for AndroidiOSWindowsBlackBerry, and as a desktop application on Google's Chrome

The app is compatible with Microsoft Office file formats. The application allows users to create and edit files online while collaborating with other users in real-time. Edits are tracked by user with a revision history presenting changes. An editor's position is highlighted with an editor-specific color and cursor.

A permissions system regulates what users can do. Updates have introduced features using machine learning, including "Explore", offering search results based on the contents of a document, and "Action items", allowing users to assign tasks to other users.

The main tool that we used for this co-constructive learning is google docs. We were divided into groups of three members and asked to plan an ICT integrated lesson plan. One of us created a google docs. forum and invited the group members along with module tutor.

We could chat in the comment box and discuss about how to go about our plans. The role of a module tutor is to observe and make comments on how the group members are progressing with the planning.

Our group planned a lesson on making connections, class iv science. we integrated ICT in such a way that the main activity of a lesson was to exercise PHET-simulation on electric conduction of DC.

We, the group members  participated actively and contributed to our plan. We were able to come come to the discussions at the same time and could make a good progress. There were also rare times
when we could not come to discussion together because of personal inconveniences.
However, the one who contributed the idea would write in the comment box to her friends to suggest and make changes whenever they visit the forum.

Given below is the screen-record of how we worked on the google docs.

ICT as Co-constructive Tool

         What are Co-constructive tools?

  • A co-construction tool is an approach, where it is an emphasis on collaboration, and partnership working. It also includes the interactional process such as cooperation and coordination.
  • Co-construction is the concept that students can use to help them learn from others and expand their knowledge.
  • Applications that support the construction of knowledge through a shared understanding, share ideas and thought collaborative and reconstruction of the knowledge sharing additional knowledge ideas from different user.

 Importance of Co-constructive tool
  • The communication and dialogue between the teacher and learners that focuses on learning is one-way methods for co-construction.
  •  Through co-construction, the students will able to explore and share their views in term of learning.
  • They can able to build a relationship between society to have effective communication and learning.
  • The co-construction is important for developing creative partnerships within the classroom as well as societies.
  • Students can use constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge.
  • one way of co-constructive is that use of the electronic whiteboard where students may post notices to shared documents/whiteboard. students may also co-edit the same document from their homes.
  • Co-Construction is a web-based custom builder and remodeler software that optimizes the day to day operations of builders, modellers and design-build firms.
  • high-level cognitive processes - explanation, problem - finding, problem solving
  • identifying and devloping expertise                                                                                                                                                                        Willams (2000, p. 197)

Camtasia

 Camtasia (Constructive Tool)

What is Camtasia Studio?
Camtasia studio is a software program which used for creating video tutorial to make our lesson effective. Camtasia studio allows us to capture or record the computer screen. Camtasia studio also helps to capture live video screens and shots. It is easy to use program where it provide user to create or edit recording video as per their plans and ideas.
We can even record PowerPoint presentation using record the screen in camtasia studio.

Camtasia consists of two major components:
·         Camtasia Recorder – is tool for capturing screen audio and video.
·         Camtasia editor- which is used editing video tutorial using show timeline or storyboard.

What we can do with Camtasia studio?
·         Add or insert images
·         Add sound or audio files
·         Add a text
·         Add or insert animation
·         Add video clip
·         Editing video clip
·         Add narration voice (record our own voice)
·         Record the screen
·         Capturing the live video tutorial

As an assignment for this tool we were given assignment to produce a video lesson on particular topics provided. I did on Culture over Time that is social studies of class VI. I learned how to use Camtasia studio through videos that our tutor had uploaded for us along with the video samples for us which were helpful and also watched few YouTube videos to understand more.

The benefits of video tutorial are:
  •      Independent learning for students, where they can access from anywhere, anytime.
  •      Can provide a face-to-face learning atmosphere
  •      Ability to skip unnecessary parts and watch important portions multiple times
  •      Can be paused and saved for later
  •      Free or cheap alternative to courses and books

Video Tutorial

Constructivism recognises and validates the student's point of view, so that rather than being wrong or right, the student reevaluates and readjusts their knowledge  and understanding. Such an emphasis generates confidence and self-esteem, which, in turn, motivate the student to tackle more complex problems and themes in life.
Using the Camtasia studio i created a video lesson of 10 minutes. Given below is the video lesson:

ICT as Constructive Tool

ICT as Constructive Tool

Constructive tools are general-purpose tools that can be used for manipulating information, constructing one’s own knowledge or visualising one’s understanding.  The term ‘constructive’ stems from the fact that these tools enable students to produce a certain tangible product for a given instructional purpose.

For example, web authoring applications allow students to create their own web pages and communicate their ideas to the world.  This is a tool used in the manipulation of information, construction of new knowledge and visualisation and understanding of new information or knowledge. Constructive tools, such as Microsoft Word, or PowerPoint are being widely utilised in the education sector and other organizations mostly in the form of presentations, reports, and letters etc.
Constructive Social media tools
The authoring tool is also used to create websites, digital camera, Moviemaker, animation software, drawing and painting programs, wikis, and interactive whiteboard. These programs can allow users to organise and present their ideas in attractive formats. Social media such as Facebook, twitter and blogs are used by people to share their works and passion through which they gain popularity.

We were taught how ICT acts as a constructive tool and as an activity we were asked to produce video using simulation. We had a good learning from it as we got to be creative and use our own styles and ways of presenting our work through audios, videos and music. Through this activity we could share about our locality and advertise it to the ones who have never been to, before.

For this, I presented the popular and unique features we can see in Thimphu area. It was a 10 minutes long video where i talked about why one must visit Thimphu. I learned that such tools like simulation can be beneficial in showcasing many aspects of the content in a small area like single slide.

Jonassen and Carr (2000) discussed learning with technology from a constructivist perspective.  They suggested that computers could be used as mindtools for the construction and facilitation of the learning of higher-order thinking skills.  Mindtools included computer applications such as ;

    Ø  databases,
    Ø  spreadsheets,semantic networking programs
    Ø  expert systems,
    Ø  modelling tools,
    Ø  micro-worlds,
Using mind tools to represent what they have learnt engages students in a variety of higher order thinking, such as evaluating, analysing, connecting, elaborating, synthesising, imagining, designing, problem solving, and decision-making.
